As assistant provost for WVU Online within the Office of the Provost, Chad Mezera is responsible for helping to develop a University-wide strategy to deliver high-quality online courses, degrees and executive education programs to traditional and lifelong learners. He works to establish strategic priorities and a vision for WVU’s online offerings while implementing quality standards across all aspects of digital education, including student support and success initiatives.

A two-time alumnus of WVU, Mezera brings nearly two decades of experience leading online program growth at the college level. He was a key figure in developing the nation’s first fully online master’s degree in Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) at WVU.

Since joining WVU in 2005 as the marketing director for the IMC program in the former Reed College of Media, Mezera played a vital role in marketing, recruitment and market research. Within two years, he was promoted to program director, overseeing day-to-day operations and strategic planning. From 2011 to 2017, as director of online programs, he expanded WVU’s IMC program to become the University’s largest master’s program, with enrollment increasing by 777% — from 57 students in 2005 to nearly 450 in 2016. Most recently, Mezera served as assistant dean of Online Programs for the College of Creative Arts and Media and the former Reed College of Media.

Under his leadership, WVU’s IMC program received national recognition, including the Outstanding Online Program of the Year award from the Online Learning Consortium in 2015 and Program of Excellence designation by the WVU Board of Governors in 2020.

Before coming to WVU, Mezera led corporate communications for a major government IT solutions provider and managed marketing campaigns for a think tank dedicated to improving government practices at federal, state and local levels.
