The School of Dentistry will create an art exhibit that fosters inclusivity, supports underrepresented groups and promotes diversity. Funding would be used to purchase art supplies, portable stand-up displays and table-top posters. Community members will use the art supplies to create pieces that highlight various cultures and promote social equity. All community members – 186 dental students, 86 dental hygiene students, 29 residents, 83 staff and 70 faculty – would be invited to participate in this project. The exhibit will be showcased in the highly trafficked Pylons area of Health Sciences Center and the dental hallway. Additionally, the Wellness Committee plans to partner with the DEI Committee to exhibit cultural posters and creative artistic pieces in our patient waiting area and rotate the pieces out monthly. The project will allow social engagement within our community and extend to the patients we serve, as well as perspective students, faculty and staff. Funding from this project will allow us to create inclusive spaces that not only encourage reflection but also offer a global perspective.
