Project Leader(s): Crosby Hipes, WVU Tech Department of Social Sciences and Public Administration
This grant funding will provide support for an Inside-Out class to be taught with WVU Tech students and residents in a correctional facility. Inside-Out classes engage students and inmates in a dialogue-driven, collaborative class culminating in a group project. These classes have proven effective at reducing bias and stereotyping, thus furthering the University mission to celebrate diversity and inclusion. Funds will help support transportation to and from the facility for students and to provide books or other class materials for the residents of the correctional facility. Often these materials are not provided, and many inmates of facilities cannot afford to purchase the books themselves.
