REALIGNING FOR A SHARED MISSION

A shared mission to serve the people of West Virginia in areas such as agriculture, natural resources, youth development, health and safety, community development and engagement will serve as the foundation for a new unit at West Virginia University.

The new Division for Land-Grant Engagement will be home to the Davis College of Agriculture and Natural Resources; WVU Extension; and the Center for Community Engagement.

The new division will officially launch July 1, 2024.

Leading the Way

In January 2024, the University announced that Jorge Atiles, current dean and director of Extension and Engagement at WVU, will serve as the institution’s new associate vice president and dean for Land-Grant Engagement, overseeing all three units in the new division.

A collaborative Effort

Working Groups

During fall 2023, WVU Extension and Davis College leadership established working groups focused on moving the realignment forward by reviewing data, identifying best practices and providing recommendations to leadership.

Next Steps

The new division will officially launch July 1, 2024. New leadership will also be in place July 1.

Throughout the spring semester, working groups will continue to provide recommendations to current leadership on the functional support structure of the new division. Additional decisions about the division’s organizational structure, including the senior leadership team, will be made in the coming months.
