General Education Revision

Call for WVU General Education Faculty Leadership

What

The Office of the Provost seeks to identify three or four faculty leaders to help guide general education revision at West Virginia University. The faculty leaders will engage stakeholders, solicit campus input, lead conversations, and ultimately lend their expertise in creating a new general education program and curriculum designed to better serve our students. Any faculty leader(s) identified will work collaboratively with Associate Provost for Curriculum and Assessment Lou Slimak, Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education Evan Widders, and Provost Fellow Lindsay Morris-Neuberger to do background research, lead institutional collaboration (including faculty involvement across disciplines), and drive the general education revision process forward.

Who

Full-time WVU faculty at any rank with experience teaching and/or designing general education courses and a strong commitment to improving general education at WVU are eligible to apply.

Why

WVU has begun revisiting its general education curriculum, addressing weaknesses in efficiency and assessment by streamlining offerings and beginning campus-wide conversations on reaching meaningful general education goals. The next few years will represent a critical period in general education development, resulting in the strategic implementation of a new curriculum with meaningful, long-lasting impact. Successful completion of the general education process will require broad-based and meaningful engagement over several years. Obtaining committed faculty leadership is an essential part of this process.

How

Please send a CV and letter of interest indicating experience relevant to the position (particularly with general education), interest in the role, and vision for the process to louis.slimak@mail.wvu.edu. Compensation and support in the form of professional development funds and/or summer stipends will be negotiated with any identified individual(s).

When

Initial review of applications will begin April 2. The Office of the Provost will review applications and conduct interviews until the positions are filled.

Contact

Questions about the process can be directed to Lindsay Morris-Neuberger at lindsay.morrisneuberger@mail.wvu.edu.
