The Provost’s Office encourages backward course design, an instructional design method starting with the end goals of a course (the student learning outcomes) in mind – specifically, how students will be different by the end of their learning experience. Resources on this page will help faculty first identify the desired learning outcomes and then determine the types of assessments that will provide evidence of students' mastery of those outcomes, as well as plan engaging instructional activities and content that align and integrate with the learning outcomes. The Syllabus Builder is also available and is to be used to produce a reference syllabus for all course records in CIM.
