Guidelines for Completing BOG Program Reviews

Review Structure and Process

  • Each program is reviewed by two reviewers (occasionally three).
  • The primary reviewer is always a returning Council member; the secondary reviewer may be either a new or returning Council member.
  • All returning Council members serve as the primary reviewer for at least one program.
  • All new Council members serve as secondary reviewers their first year.
  • The number of reviews a Council member is assigned to depends on the number of programs undergoing review but is usually one or two.
  • Reviews are completed using a Qualtrics form. Each program has a unique link to the form, so that both reviewers can access the form for that program (only one review form is submitted for each program).
  • Referring to the program self-study (including any attachments and any relevant web-based information), the primary reviewer completes their review by the recommended deadline and notifies the secondary reviewer(s) of completion.
  • For each section of the self-study, please provide a concise, specific, and evidence-based evaluation, on which informal recommendations and the formal recommendation on review outcome can be based. For example, “The program is performing (evaluative word) in (specific area) as demonstrated by (reference to specific evidence from the self-study, catalog, or program website)." It is not necessary to fully summarize the self-study section by section.
  • The secondary reviewer reads the completed review, referencing the self-study, and lets the primary reviewer know of any differences of opinion, alternative interpretations, etc. Dialogue between reviewers in the case of such differences may occur either by email, virtual meeting, or in-person meeting.
  • When the two (or three) reviewers have arrived at consensus on the review, the primary reviewer makes any revisions on the Qualtrics form and submits it by the deadline.
