AOE Proposal Outline

Use the following to develop a proposal for a new area of emphasis.

  1. Associated major(s):  Identify all majors in which students will be able to complete this area of emphasis as part of their program requirements.
  2. Rationale for new AOE:  What is the evidence of need for the new AOE? What is the potential impact on enrollment for the associated major(s)? How is/are the associated major(s) aligned with the new AOE?
  3. Proposed curriculum offered by other academic units:  Does the new AOE have any prerequisites or required courses that are taught by another academic unit?
  4. Additional resources needed: Are any new faculty, courses, space, or other resources necessary to deliver this new AOE?
  5. Course rotation plan: Describe the pattern of course offerings for all AOE required courses.
  6. Requirements and catalog information: New AOE initiators must work with the Office of the University Registrar to ensure that all AOE curriculum requirements are entered and adhere to institutional policies and best practices.
